Step 9: Creating The Pressed Buttons

We still need another version of each button for when it's pressed. I've decied to use a glowing look for this tutorial, but by changing the shadows and bevelling you could make it look like you're physically pressing the button and moving it downwards.

Instead, duplicate the 'Buttons' layer and name the new one 'Buttons Pressed'. Then change the base shape color to a nice looking green, and add a single new layer style in addition to all the normal button layer styles:

Outer Glow

Just click on the layer style's name to pop open a window showing the exact settings I've used. The outer glow here is used to add a little green to the groove, as if the button were casting some light on the stuff around it.

Always remember to hide one of the two button layers you now have, when exporting your final images. Since they are both transparent, you'll want only one visible, or they will both draw pixels in the same places, effecting the total transparency of the end result.
